July 25th was National Cowboy Day and it couldn’t have been a more perfect day to throw a cowboy themed party for my dad turning 65!
As long as I can recall, my dad has LOVED westerns! John Wayne is his favorite actor of all time…when I went to visit him last week, he was watching westerns. He just about knows every one of them, word for word…and that’s not an exaggeration…
Mom came to me about 2 months ago and said that she wanted to throw him a surprise party at the Spaghetti Warehouse. I went to look at the site and secure the room and thought that the location couldn’t have been more perfect for the theme! With all of the vintage decor, old fashioned lamps and wood-detailing, I set about turning it into a saloon and making this milestone birthday the best yet!
Before we started the party, there was a smaller dessert table for the guests to snack on while we waited for everyone to show up. Sugar straws, s’mores on a stick, peanuts and a mixed candy bin were all accessible to get folks sugar levels up to be ready for the arrival of the birthday boy.
One of the games we played was Cowboy Bingo. I found it online in an Etsy shop and it was a great time consumer while we waited for all of the guests to show up. To spice it up a bit, I instructed the guests that they had to yell “YEEEE-HAAW BINGO!” if they won; they really got into it and it was hilarious!
There were a lot of DIY elements that made this possible: succulent planter boxes, working saloon doors, TNT gift favors and a covered wagon dessert table! Yep, that was handmade!
The dessert table is what the guests always go for first! Cupcakes, cookies, “cow pies,” chocolate covered Oreos, horse cake pops and candy…oh my!
In case you were wondering, he was totally surprised! Our family from TX, GA, MO, NC and friends from all over TN showed up for his big day! After he showed up, we played more games and had dinner. There was a fashion show for everyone who dressed up for the occasion and lots of gifts to go around. As a small token of thanks, we passed out TNT favors filled with sweets.
Everyone said they truly had a blast and I couldn’t have been more proud of my family for showing up to give my dad the best birthday ever!
