So day 2 of our Downtown Dining Week experience finds us at Oshi Burger Bar. Located at 94 S Main, it’s a building over from our spot from last night. Walking in, I was excited about the decor. I love all things Asian and the combo of the Orient and retro American is uniquely perfect for the fare. The bar is a beautiful piece of white swirl marble and something I’d love to have on my own countertops.
Looking at the menu, it was something that I wouldn’t have tried on a regular night. A bit out of my comfort zone, I had to go YOLO on this one and eat it.
A precursor to the meal always calls for a good drink. A $5 special let us sample the Crouching Tiger, which involves gin, sake and some other deliciousness. If you don’t particularly like sake or ginger, skip this one and opt for another or a house wine.
As an appetizer, our companions ordered grilled beef short ribs with a Korean BBQ glaze and soy ginger dipping sauce. They also graciously shared their crispy potstickers and they were nothing short of amazing.
The fries were brought out as the first course but the service was so quick that we were able to enjoy them with the Kobe beef burger. I usually hate anything mayonnaise based but the truffle butter sauce was amazing! Instead of a traditional bacon cheeseburger, Oshi takes it to another level by tossing on a slab of pork belly bacon. I’m not a big fan of anything too spicy but the wasabi jack cheese brings out every flavor in the burger…and didn’t send me running for a hydrant! That’s always a check in the #win column…
Last course up…Root beer floats for 2! They are offered leaded (with alcohol) or unleaded (virgin, regular root beer) but we decided to leave the lead behind the bar. Served Lady and the Tramp style, we got 2 straws to share one delicious finish.
All in all, it was a great experience. I kinda ate myself silly, but every calorie was worth it! So much for going toward my goal of losing 60 pounds *le sigh*
